About Us

North Yorkshire County Council's Outdoor Learning Service is dedicated to developing outdoor learning for all children and young people together with training courses for adults and youth leaders.

We aim to provide inspiring outdoor learning that helps every child and young person we work with become a successful learner, confident individual and a responsible citizen.

We provide challenge, adventure and education based activities, helping learners develop personal and outdoor skills, value and respect others and appreciate the natural world.

In addition to this we provide Adult Interest and Leader Training courses for Adults and Group Leaders and are accredited or affiliated with: Adventure Activities Licensing Service, Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres, British Canoe Union, British Cycling Federation, British Orienteering Federation, Learning Outside the Classroom, Mountain Leader Training England, Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme and the Royal Yachting Association.

We currently operate four centres in North Yorkshire and Cumbria, namely:

Bewerley Park Centre - located just outside the Yorkshire Dales town of Pateley Bridge, near Harrogate.

East Barnby Centre - located high on the rolling coastal plateau between the North York Moors and the North Sea, about five miles outside Whitby.

Great Fryupdale Centre - a converted primary school in the heart of the North York Moors National Park.
