Powerboating Courses
The following courses are being run this year by the Outdoor Education Service
If you wish to attend any of the courses, please download an information request form, (Click Here), complete it and post it to the Centre running the course.
All our powerboating courses are staffed by fully qualified professional coaches and will be delivered in locations relevant to the course concerned. All specialist equipment and clothing such as waterproofs, buoyancy aids etc is provided by the Centre, however if you have your own equipment, you are always welcome to bring it with you.
The cost of all our courses includes full board and lodging, all instruction, transport whilst at the Centre and the loan of all equipment. For those staying residentially, all bed linen is provided, but please bring your own towels
RYA Powerboat Level 1
This is a basic introduction to powerboating for those who have had little or no experience in a powerboat. It is an ideal introduction to the sport.

We have no courses scheduled for this year. However, if you contact the centre where you would like to do your Level 1, we will arrange a course on a mutually convenient date once we have sufficient interest.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 (Inland)
This is a course in learning how to handle a powerboat safely. By the end of the 2 day course you will have a basic knowledge of and competence in powerboating. Ideal for aspiring sailing / watersports instructors and for sailing club members who need to help with club duties as well as anyone who just wants to learn how to handle a powered craft.

RYA Safety Boat (Inland)
This is a course in learning both how to handle a powerboat safely as well as how to operate as a rescue boat for other watersports activities.

RYA Powerboat Instructor
This course is for candidates wishing to become Powerboat Instructors. Run by experienced RYA Powerboat trainers, this 3 day intensive course follows the syllabus laid down by the Royal Yachting Association.
Please note that you are now required to have completed a pre-assessment test before you are allowed to attend this course.
This course will cover the following topics:
• Principles of practical instruction
• Lesson planning
• Teaching styles
• Use of questioning
• Preparation and use of visual aids
• Assessment of students’ learning
• Explanation and presentation of theory subjects
• The structure of the National Scheme
• Planning progressive teaching sessions
• Preparation of boats and equipment
• Teaching methods to Level 2
During the course, candidates will be assessed afloat and ashore, being judged on:
• Technical ability and background knowledge
• Practical instruction afloat
• A shore based training session
• Planning and organisation of small group tuition
The course will begin at 9am on the first morning and candidates should be prepared for evening work on both nights of the course, including presentation work
The cost of the weekend covers full board and lodgings for 2 nights, all instruction, transport whilst at the Centre and the loan of all equipment required.
Once accepted onto the course, you will be sent the 3 RYA publications required for the course which are included in the course costs.
Pre Course Experience
The RYA required that participants for this course are of a minimum age of 16, have a first aid certificate which is approved by the RYA and have a RYA Level 2 powerboat certificate. Your are advised to also be an experienced powerboat driver

RYA Powerboat Instructors Pre-Assessment Course
This course will be required for all candidates proposing to attend the Powerboat Instructors Award from 1st April 2008
