Start Sailing

Learning to sail for the first time is great fun and an opportunity to learn new skills. The sense of achievement you’ll feel when you’ve mastered the basics and sail on your own for the first time will stay with you for ever. On this course you get the chance to try all types of small boat sailing starting with the Laser Vago or Laser 2000 – with an instructor on board with you. As soon as you feel confident with basic skills such as rigging, launching, landing tacking, gybing and sailing to windward, your instructor will then coach you from a safety boat

The course will be based at East Barnby Outdoor Education Centre, with sailing taking place on the safe enclosed waters of Scaling Reservoir or in the sheltered waters of Whitby harbour depending on conditions. Practical boat handling skills during the day will be supplemented by evening talks and demonstrations. It is possible to gain Royal Yachting Association (RYA) awards if required

The Course will begin at 9am on Saturday morning, though if you wish to arrive on Friday night, dormitory accommodation and a breakfast on Saturday morning will be available

The cost of the weekend covers full board and lodging, all instruction, transport whilst at the Centre and the loan of all equipment required
